Play Synopsys

Gone are those days when one could watch only one channel of Doordarshan and a few regional channels as well. This is the revolution era of the entertainment industry and you can find multiple channels, serials being aired throughout the day. This need has given birth to new writers, directors, technicians and actors – and consequently courses and then media schools where such courses get conducted. This is a story of a professor and his student from a television academy – he teaches the script-writing course at this academy.

The protagonist is this girl who is unable to grasp what the professor teaches at the academy and when he realizes that, he invites her home to give her special coaching. The professor triggers off these questions in the girl’s mind – “What are the basics of writing? What is the story structure? What is imagination? What is the exact difference between real life and fiction? Discussions and counter reactions over these issues soon start making a foray into their personal lives.

The girl has come to town from a small village and till date has led a very confused and directionless life. She is an average intelligent girl but is troubled by the thought that life has got nothing better to offer her – she has ambition to become a prolific writer but is unwilling to put in hard work and bring about changes within her to do so. Hence she is unable to complete even a small exercise given by her professor. This continues over the next few sessions but she is unable to improve. Perhaps this is because, she has read the professor’s work ever since she was a child and when she meets him, she realizes he is not what she thought him to be and starts disliking him.


The professor, who has managed to earn some name for him 15 years before, is trying to write a play since the last 3 years. But he is not happy with his work. He is not given due respect at the Academy. On his personal front, he has an incompatible relationship with his wife and has become surely irritable. He is unable to answer some very basic questions asked very innocently by this girl and this hurts his ego. He is perplexed – he feels his personal life and his writings are sometimes poles apart – he is unable to do justice to both.



Both these characters – deeply hurt and scared within – throw important questions of their lives at each other. The main reason of discussing their subject of “scriptwriting” is left aside and they start digging at each other’s personal lives. They hurt each other as if they want to gain their own self-respect by doing so. A likelihood of close proximity developed amongst them, elopes and they part.

But something very positive gets generated out of this – they realize their agonies, blemishes, faults and for the first time, a ray of self-realization dawns in their minds.
A crispy tale which weaves its intricacies amongst the audience and one is left to wonder whether there are more underlying tones to the entire drama than what have been portrayed. As many people, those many thoughts and those many conclusions!

The problem with all the actors in a play is "they act". This was the first Natak that I have seen that the characters are not acting - they are really living in their roles. Both the characters have presented with simplicity. The female character has miraculous voice as well as eye expression. The drama is so well written and composed that we are not able to forget it. This is one of the best marathi dramas I have ever seen.

Yesterday i saw your Drama the name is "final draft" at vashi on 30/7/06

One thing i tell you, chemistry between 2 charachter is too good, but i hav some quetions.

1. what is content of the drama
2. what is the author wants to say to the audience..
3. you know our audience is a average mass, they cant think beyond particular limit (include me)
becuase i saw your drama on second row ie (b), i have heard some comment from back row " END KAY AAHE, KAY MAHNACHAYE LEKHAKALA" belive me they are well educated person. and after the end of the drama, they give good clapping also.
Belive me i am not critising in your venture... but somethig has touch becuase Mukta is talented actor and afcourse u also.. ( 2-3 thikani soldle tar) and screenplay also good, some humur points also good.
Last point ie
What are you trying to convey throug drama, belive me i did not uderstand.

Thanks for your sincere comment and we really appreciate your concern. Since you have placed this comment on our blog you must have read the play synopsis which is posted on the first page. So that’s what we want to say and convey from this play.
Now if you want to say that we cannot convey this meaning through our performance then we are really sorry for that. Because we have tried to reach every “samanya prekshak” and belive us after each show many of them come to backstage and usually tells us that they understood everything. But from your comment it seems that we are not 100 % successful in that.
But one thing is for shure prekshak are not that "samanya" as you think of them.And they are not a average mass at all.You can not convince them for 75 shows that they are undrestanding a play which they don't.
But We will shurely think what more can be done about our play because you are also very important for us and if some people from the audiance are sharing your views, as you said, then we must think about it.

Final Draft is a well written, well directed, well presented play. The play can hold the matured minds from the audience without giving them a moment to lose interest all through from beginning to the end and therefore the play must be rated as one of the very good serious plays. It cannot be judged as excellent or the best probably because it does not haunt you with gravity (that it should and has all the potentials) after leaving the theatre.
Girish & Mukta, both have acted superb in the play. Girish seems to have all the warmth and energy required for the role and uses them to its best. Congratulations to Mukta for such a great performance. Very rarely one gets to see such a subtle and intense performance. She seems to have great future as a serious actor. (unless TV serials and bad directors come her way.)
Sets were conventional and that was perfectly fine. However they were not of good quality. From that point of view one could have lived without.
Suggestion: Audience is getting serious. People keep spoiling the show with their mobiles. Your discipline is just perfect. Girish expressing his anger on mobile owner is justified and perfect. Mukta however should restrain herself from expressing her displeasure as that cuts her posture, body language and mood of the character. It does not matter when Girish does that as he is aggressive in most part of the play and expression of displeasure to the audience does not cut the flow seriously.
Efforts of all those who contributed to the happening of play deserve appreciation as such efforts prove to be hope for tomorrow.

One of the bold attempts on Marathi Theater. Rarely does one find a play with just two characters and not boring and completely engrossing. I can only compare this with a nice Marathi play of Sonali Kulkarni and Prashant Dalvi (it was on the effect of consumerism on the society at large and upwardly mobile middle class in particular) that was on stage years ago. The plot, story and the unfolding of the plot are extremely clever and I enjoyed watching the play. Keep it up!

Mr Girish Joshi and Miss Mukta Barve...you are most talented actors..keep it on.
We are realy waiting for such KALAKRUTI. This play should be presented in Prthvi Theatre too.I would like to be present for that.
one small problem is enhanced in 2and half hrs play is not a joke.
Hats off to Mr.Girish Joshi.
Play is ofcourse Mindblowing but have to watch atleast 2-3 times to understand and realise .
the relationship between Man and Woman have no of shades.
Husband-wife,Teacher-student,Father -daughter,Mother-daughter,Sisters.They are varied and differs from person to person.But I found them revealed in
this play very minutely.Generaly Father daughter relationship or Man-woman relationship is dramatised.But this is something which makes all PREKSHAK to think widely...70mm.
One suggestion I would like to give is...Mukta Barve should have one good peice of dialogue...she is very capable and TAKADICHI.

First of all I would like to congratulate you on excellent performance by both the actors in the play. I am not avid watcher of Marathi play. I took a shot of watching “Final Draft” after some good reviews from my friend. I watched this play at Gadkari Rangmandir in thane. The ticket was cheap as compared to what we pay to watch disastrous movies at multiplex. So on that count I also would like to appreciate your effort on making play affordable to watch.
First impression of “Final Draft” for me was unrealistic. I thought the protagonist girl was to fragile in her thoughts to inspire a arrogant professor to mends his way. Please understand that my views on this play are from my point of view and they may sound naïve to you. But I guess in any work if you want to reach the pinnacle of perfection you have to take in account all the viewer (also a knucklehead like me). I didn’t had problem in understanding your message. But when I watch anything whether its play, movie I like to take away something from it, which would help me to be a better person. Unfortunately your play was not able to give me that.
Let me elaborate on why I called it unrealistic. I think the arrogant egoist professor is visible in our day-to-day life in every field. The people who think they are great and would do great think reasoned the society for bogging them down. We hear these sob stories in our life many times. My contention is that these people don’t have the courage to come up and say I screwed up and I would like to change and I am not so efficient in what I do. I don’t think a simple innocent girl would change there ways instantly. The other thing the girl in beginning of play was dumb or she was acting dumb was confusing to me and suddenly she rising to occasion is really unrealistic. But I guess as you have said during the play the drama are never real they always portray the things which common people cannot do or which cannot happen in real life. I think that’s what I got from this drama is that it happens in perfect world where arrogant people realize and stupid dumb people find there way. Anyway I am not a expert neither near to one but I thought it was prudent to express my views. I would certainly watch your coming plays because as actor you are great and would like to see you in some role, which inspires me.
Lastly, kudos to you on starting this blog. For techs like us it’s a good medium to express our naïve views.

I went to this play because my mom told me that play is good and number of awards were received for this play.

Earlier I was not even happy to buy tickets for my and my family after looking advertisiment.

Advertisiment photo shows face of sad girl and below name final draft.

I was not even having any hint that it was about draft copy of story. It was giving expression about sad lady waiting for some money and (FINAL DRAFT "money") is not received.

I thought it was some family saga about money. After going to drama all the concepts changed.

It was truly very well done. Changing name of the play may appeal for more crowd. It is difficult to get suitable name.
May be (Tine sodawala ha gunnta -
she resolved complex matter) or
(Mhanal tar Shikshak - If you say then he or she is teacher). I don't know if it is correct name. However, sure that add is not clicking any tune in my mind.

Act is truly good (I am missing words). Presentation was good, even with difficulty of phone ringing they managed to pull through entire show and I never felt that they are getting out of
emotions.

Only one thing I found that Mukta Barve always touches corner of her mouth very frequently. If this is habit, then there is need to stop this during show. If this is act to show girl is little mad then it can be added with more talks than this type of action.

It's simply speechless.. Awesome.... Public is actually now pissed off of attending typical romanitc dramas... Very happy to see that Marathi world has still its own dedicated set of audience & i am pretty sure that such plays will always get justice from us...

Good Morning. Let me begin by apologising, on behalf of the Vashi audience, for disturbing the actors. However, despite our mobiles, children and the infamous pop-corn [we were shocked by the carpet of shells the 1st rowers left in their wake], I am sure that even the most thick-skinned and insensitive people among us left with something new, thanks to this play.

I am very fond of [reading and at times, watching] English plays, and except for a few `Awishkari' etc. attempts, mainstream Marathi theatre disapppoints due to the overdose of farce and melodrama. Therefore, I must say that I was VERY pleasantly surprised to sit through this play.

According to me, it's an excellent pychological drama. The multiple possibilities and their sinister overtones are very thrilling. It takes daring for you guys to go out there and perform to people who might be intellectually estranged from all that you stand for. Believe me, you make a difference to many of us. Please let me know when is your next performance in Vashi, Mumbai, Pune, etc. I want to watch it again and tell all my friends about it.

Saw the play "Final Draft" today. A nice experience.What impressed me most was the ease & originality with which Shri Girish joshi delivred his dialogues. There was nowhere a 'mugging' effect even with the extensively long & informative monologues.Excellent! Probably it is the asset of the writer himself playing the role.All the best for the team! Mukta was lovely in her gestures & portrayed the nervous attitude well. Except, if she can do something else than frequently brushing her lip line to sow the nervous attitude every time. Can we thnk of some other effective gestures like pulling the dress or brushing hands,etc? Sorry, i'm not an authority at all, but just felt like saying it. One more doubt remains. Why is she made to lie about her past?Just to save her skin or as an indication of the extreme imaginitive power & insanity the author talks of in th elast line?Is there any subtle explanation given? At least i couldn't locate it. rest was brilliant. i can understand how difficult it must be to hold the audience so well with only two people & no cheap farcical punches.great!

Both me and my husband Ashok simply loved it. It has all the elements of a great play and has been enacted in the best manner posssible. I have been regularly watching Ms Mukta Barve in Agnishikha and have been duly impressed with her extremely natural acting style. Indeed she is very good this time round too. Girish Joshi has done a remarkable job of Writing-Directing-Acting. This play, infact, has no flaw. I look forward to some more great things from these two people either together or separately. Congratulations!

Is it possible to get the script from anywhere? I would like to have it if possible. Mainly because I wish to ponder over it a little more. So do let me know.

Fanal Draft was a nice presentation & really a wonderful experience after a long time.

Name of the play not only simple but also simply great! There is lot in the name as I beieve. It catches & leaves the theme in the mind of the viewers.

The theme is connected to the real life from where it starts. It also introduces to the relativity of real life & fiction. The layman can know about a few important terms of the theory of writing. The theme is unexpected & different from the ot the social plays. Secondly it is superior than the theme of "My Fair Lady" which is based on dramtic situation where idealogy prevails and the unreality is beatifully presented in a most dramatic style. Whereas the "Final Draft" is based on a possible true story where the rality is presented in more natural style! Reality presented through the medium of drama. That is the greatest effects that leaves behind. You have reasoned as why the great exceptional auhor like GA was avoiding crowd!

Only Marathi plays represents the true life through the appropriate relations of the drama situation . Rajan Bhise has done a good job which paints the today,s monetory status of Marathi writers though is not worse as the past. the costume selection is complimentary to the characters.

Mukta's acting was difficult since she has presented innosence required by the the role & also the deficiencies as ponited out by the professor on her face clarly as well as naturally. Her anger also quite appealing since the one who you think her as below average commits than the medicores can also think when they are attacked mentally (As the professor does). Her acting is more difficult than the professor since the professr's role is presented most naturally As the teachers are!

There are a few drawbacks. Consider Mukta joins engineering & then such uninteresting field according to he but fails to complete any course as she was forced to do so by her parents. A below average girl cannot even attempt to read GA or Satre. On the balance it has no major drawback.

No spcific comments on the music as we understand the subject very little.

Lastly cogratulatins to Producers. They should catch the golden moments by vidio shooting in time so that they can encash them.(In US, there thousands od Marathi lovers who may also support them for the mass production of VCDs) The good plays have relatively a short stage life. That is the tragedy of today's stage life.

In a nutshell:

It was in inch better than a great english movie! (Unfortunateley most of us cannot enjoy fully due to the Amerian accents). We like them due to the unusual subject,script, great Hollywood techniques & actors. Final Draft has given an equivalent memoriable experience!! Keep it up.

In first place I once again want to Congratulate you for Zee Gaurav Award 2007.

I saw the drama yesterday at Shivaji Mandir. Beautifully gripped and well written - directed play. Mukta Barve just did a splendid job. Please wish her best of luck for her future from my side.

Myself and Sunil were very pleased to see the drama. We were supposed to come and meet you back stage after the drama but we decided to post our comments on you mail id.

The chemistry between you and Mukta was just fabulous. I wish your complete team best of luck and congralutions to all for doing such a great job.

Muktas & yours mannerism was very effective. The dialogues came out of you two as if you both are at home.

Your sincere effort to make people understand and implement the habit of putting of their mobiles phone and keeping kids at bay is appreciated by me and Sunil. I know some people may find it rude but I strongly feel you have started a new trend of making people understand the seriousness of the artists art presentation and performance.

This was wonderful. It is rare to have a full length drama with only two actors. This one comes a winner.
Watched your performance in Raleigh, NC, USA.
Girish did great with all aspects of Acting, Direction, script. Mukta was fabulous. The changes throughout the play in her role were very challenging and she did wonderful job. Her facial expressions and body language was great to watch during entire play.
Thanks to Dr. Mohan Agashe to bring this play to US.

Watched the play in New Jersey on April 14. Must say I was impressed by it. The story could have been more powerful in some aspects, but still I guess I'm not here to comment about it.

What I liked most was the acting by Mukta Barve. I thought she was simply marvelous. Girish Joshi did a splendid job too. All in all, it is a very impressive play and I would recommend it to anyone.

Mukta has shown she can be matured, yet mischievous in a very uncanny manner. Loved some of the dialogues and intonations she adopted by her. Girish Joshi did a fantasic job as well and in some ways it seemed as if he was living the drama. I must admit, I was moved a bit in the end.

I would also like to apologise for some of the ignorant people who let their mobile phones ring during the play. It was quite an embarrassment, even though it was not mine. I hope people will learn from it hereon :-)

Best wishes for all the other plays in the US and elsewhere.

काल रविवार २७ एप्रिल २००७ ला दीनानाथला तुमचा रात्रीचा प्रयोग पाहीला. आणि जरादेखील अतिशयोक्ती न करता मी निदान माझ्यापुरतं तरी अस म्हणू शकतो की अनेक, अनेक वर्षांनी एवढ चांगल नाटक पाहील. ("माकडाच्या हाती शॅंपेन" अजून पहायच आहे.) मराठी नाटकांच नक्की काय चालल आहे, आणि मराठी नाटक नक्की कुठं चाललं आहे अस वाटायला लावणा्रय़ा या काळात एवढ चांगल नाटक पाहुन फ़ार चांगलं वाटल आणि दिलासा देखील मिळाला. खर तर या नाटकाविषयी एवढ ऐकूनसुद्धा आणि त्याला मिळालेल्या पुरस्कारांची यादी वाचूनसुद्धा या नाटकाविषयी फ़ार अपेक्षा ठेवल्या नव्हत्या, कारण या आधीचा अनुभव फ़ारसा आशाजनक नव्हता. गेलि ३-४ वर्षं प्रचंड चर्चेत असलेल, "धो धो हसवणारं", आणि पहिल्या ३६५ दिवसातच ७१५ की काहीतरी प्रयोग झालेल एक सर्कससारख नाटक पाहून प्रेक्षकांवरचा, आणि वर्ष-दीड वर्षापूर्वी एका जुन्या, प्रथितयश संस्थेने काढलेल, आणि बरेचसे अल्फा-बीटा आणि राज्य सरकारचे पुरस्कार मिळालेल एक "अतिरेकी" विषयावरच नाटक पाहून पुरस्कारांवरचा विश्वास पूर्ण उडाला होता. मराठी नाटकाबद्दल एकूणच अविश्वास निर्माण करणारय़ा या सर्व निराशाजनक पार्र्श्वभूमीवर फ़ायनल ड्राफ़्ट हा एक खूप सुखद असा धक्का होता.

या नाटकाचा विषय आणि त्याची मांडणी खूपच छान आहे, त्यातच नाटकाच अर्ध-अधिक यश असावं. (अर्थात मी ही मतं फ़क्त एक सामान्य प्रेक्षक म्हणून मांडत आहे.) कितीतरी वेळा अस दिसत की चांगली कल्पना किंवा विषय असुनही नाटककाराने नीट develop न केल्यामुळे तो फ़ुकट जातो. इथे मात्र नाटककाराने अस होऊ दिलेल नाही. नाटकाला script मुळात चांगल हवं हा मुद्दा जरी चावून चोथा झालेला असला तरी चांगली नवीन scripts येतच नाही आहेत ही एक आपली दुर्दैवी शोकांतीका आहे. नाटक मुळात चांगल असल तरच नाटक चांगल (आणि यशस्वी) होऊ शकतं हा धडा आपल्या "नाटक मंडळीं" नी फ़ायनल ड्राफ़्ट कडून पुन्हा एकदा शिकायला हरकत नाही.

नाटकाच्या स्क्रीप्ट विषयी सांगण्यासारखी मुख्य गोष्ट मला वाटते ती म्हणजे, एवढ original आणि पूर्वी ऐकलेल्या, वाचलेल्या, किंवा पाहीलेल्या कशाशीही साम्य न वाटणारं, अस काहीतरी खरोखरच अनेक वर्षांनी पहायला मिळाल. याबद्दल गिरीश जोशी यांच मनापासून अभीनंदन.

नाटकातील अभीनय आणि दिग्दर्शन या विषयी तर काही फ़ारस बोलायची गरजच नाही, एवढ ते सुंदर आहे. मुक्ता बर्वे ची या पूर्वीची मझ्या लक्षात राहीलेली भूमीका टीव्ही वरच्या पिंपळ्पान मधल्या सानीया यांच्या कथेवर आधारित मालीकेमधली होती. त्या पार्श्वभूमीवर, ही थोडीशी कॉंट्रास्ट कॅरॅक्टरदेखील तीने एवढी चांगली केलेली पाहून बर वाटल. ती आजची एक आघाडीची अभिनेत्री आहे यात प्रश्नच नाही. गिरिश जोशीना या आधी फ़ारस कुठे पहीलेल आठवत नाही, पण या नाटकातला त्यांचा "triple role" फ़ारच impressive आहे.

एवढ सगळ चांगल लिहील्यानंतर आता थोडीशी टीका करयलाही हरकत नाही. नाटक जरी एवढ चांगल असल तरी त्यात हलकेच दाखवण्यासारखे थोडेफ़ार दोषदेखील (माझ्या मते) जाणवले. त्यातील सर्वात प्रमूख म्हणजे, नाटकातील दोन्ही व्यक्तिरेखा, पण विशेषत: मुलीची, थोडीशी confusing वाटते. तिची पर्सनॅलिटी आणि तिची मानसिकता नीटशी स्पष्ट होत नाही अस वाटल. नाटकाच्या सुरुवतीला अत्यंत सामान्य वकुबाची वाटणारी ही मुलगी काही वेळा फ़ारच बुद्धीमान वाटते. एवढच नव्हे तर ज्या मुलीला कथेतला मुलभुत बदल, अणि तपशीलातले फ़ेरफ़ार यातला फ़रक कळत नाही, ती सार्त्र, कामु, जी.ए. वगैरे गहन पुस्तक वाचते हे ( किंवा किमान तिला त्यांची नावं माहीत आहेत हे देखील) निदान थोडस खटकणार आहे. पण सर्वात महत्वाचं म्हणजे, नाटकाच्या शेवटी जेव्हा तिच्या खोट्या गोष्टी आणि स्वत:च्या आयुष्याविषयीचा कल्पनाविलास उघड होतो, तेव्हा ती अस का करते, तिची मानसिकता काय आहे, आणि तिची उद्दिष्ट काय होती, हे काहीच नीटसं स्पष्ट होत नाही. त्या मुळे हे पात्र (आणि त्या बरोबरच नाटकाचा ओव्हरऑल इंपॅक्ट) थोडासा धुसर होतो. सर हे पात्र देखिल काही थोड्या वेळा असच "out of character" वाटत. पहिल्या अंकात मुलीशी बोलताना पत्नीचा फ़ोन येतो त्यानंतरच्या प्रसंगात सर एक्दम मध्येच वेगळे वाटतात - अचानक ऍग्रेसीव्ह मधुन थोडस डिफ़ेन्सीव्ह असा सरांमधला तेव्हाचा बदल तेवढासा "smooth" वाटला नाही. शिवाय दुसरया अंकाच्या सुरुवातीला काही काळ नाटकाची पकड सैल होते आहे की काय अस वाटत होत. पण सुदैवाने काही काळाने ते परत रुळावर आल. पण या तुलनेने तुरळक त्रुटी असुनसुद्धा नाटकाचा overall impact खुपच चांगला होतो. मुख्य म्हणजे, सर जे नेहेमी सांगत असतात त्या प्रमाणे नाटकाचा शेवट चांगला आणि प्रभावी आहे, तसच सर म्हणतात त्याप्रमाणेच पॉझिटीव्हदेखील आहे. त्यामुळे नाटकाचा शेवटचा परिणाम मनावर पॉझिटीव्ह रहातो.

एक सांगण्यासारखी चांगली गोष्ट राहीली - मुक्ता बर्वेची वेशभुषा, आणि विशेषत: पहिल्या-दुसरया प्रवेशामधली केशभुषा, फ़ारच सुरेख. त्यामुळे त्या व्यक्तीरेखेला चांगलाचं उठाव आला.

तर अस हे सुंदर नाटक दिल्याबद्दल, निर्माते, लेखक, दिग्दर्शक आणि कलावंतांच मनापासून अभीनंदन, आणि त्याहीपेक्षा जास्त, मन:पूर्वक आभार.

yesterday we saw the drama at Gadkari.After long time we saw a very good drama. (last drama we enjoyed was makdachya hati shampene.)Girish Joshi as a writer, director, and actor is simply superb.Mukta Barve has acted very well.waiting for another good drama form Girish Joshi at the earliest.
I have to request you to start the play at scheduled time. Audience are aware that play always start 15-20 minutes late so they always come late.Secondly why writers cant write 3 anki drama.Is it because audience don'twant to waste 3-4 hours for drama or writers are unable write big script lasting for 3-4 hours.Girish Joshi waiting for best(3 anki drama) at the earliest from you.Wish you success for you new dramas.

I have seen the Marathi play after 2 years and I used to prefer to see the comedy farcical play.But this was Superb Play, and it clearly shows how this generation is smart and realistic than earlier generation and also dont bother to talk truth. Also one thing to learn from play is that you have to be flexible in life to get success from old things.

Both the actors Mr.Girish Joshi and Miss Mukta Barve were excellent and they were succesful to hold the audiances in both parts.Script and Flow of drama is very good.Definately both of you will achieve new heights in your carrier.

Let me congratulate Mr.Girish Joshi and Ms.Barve for giving us a wonderful experience in contempory theatre.Initially I thought it was an adoptation of an excellent film called Oleana starring William H.Macy but soon the script changed considerably.Mukta's transformation was very subtle and appreciated but I did not find the same in Girish's role.Keep it up and look forward to see more plays from you!

mukta many times reminded me of my daughter (she is in 7th std.) when i answr to her innocent questions i remind girish.

the end of the play is not much catchy.
do make cd of ur play we really miss it after if any actor leaves. e.g. all the best we miss sanjay,ankush,bharat, nobody can perform like them or lakshya in shanteche karte chalu ahe, or we will miss bharat in sahi re sahi or makdachya hati.

First Things First...

Me and the wife are play/ theatre enthusiasts, and we hate the mobile phone intrusions.

Of all the places that we frequent , we thought that the best implementation of the "Mobiles Not Allowed" was at the Prithvi, Makrand Deshpande we thought was the Rudest and hence Most Effective...

We were wrong.

We found you to be the MOST EFFECTIVE of them all.

Appreciate the effort and we wish that every one could follow the same...

Since we could enjoy a lot of the play (minus the interruptions).. here's what we thought...

The Format: Its a very unique format , 2 characters in the same same frame with minimal breaks.. Only Double Deal has a slightly better format.

The Plot: The Plot was AMAZING.
Especially the part where the character of the girl comes under a cloud, was very well handled. The reverse aggression shown by the student on the teacher when she was exposed, was something that none expected.

The Acting: One word Brilliant. Ability of sustain long dialogues and deliver them in one breath was breath taking.. Reinforces why the theatre is a far superior acting form , as there were no opportunities for Retakes, and Memory power required to learn the exhanges of dialogues was really really reinforced.

The End: Was what the play wanted to tell the audience... in a make believe world there are happy endings.

I saw this play with my friends Samir, Shashi, Ashish, Swati, Sujata, Archana, Yogita and me and all are said too good for this play.

Hi there,

Saw the play on 05/20/07 at Dinanath. This is a totally different kind of play and I would like to make some suggestions:

1. STRICTLY do not allow children for the play (they should be stopped at the entrance itself and not let inside the hall. They create a lot of disturbance as evidenced on 05/20/07 when the play had to be stopped almost 4 times. This is not done.

2. STRICTLY do not allow eatables inside the auditorium (the management of Dinanath should be involved in making arrangements to see that people adhere to the same). I feel our audience is NOT YET mature enough to understand and adhere to simple instructions.

3. I feel that some of the "funny moments" in the first part need to be toned down as I feel that they dilute the content of the play.

The play was a delight to watch and listen too..Had not seen such a play in a long time. Hats off to both Girish and Mukta..u rock guyz..

i saw "FINAL DRAFT"on 8th july2007 at atre rangaytan,kalyan.it was nice to see you both geared up from the word go!!!
the baseline,the act done by you both,lights(specially that wing lights),the stage and the sound tracks and last but not at all the least the direction was fabulus.
Mukta tai has done yet another fantastic display of allround acting skills.we all have seen her erlier in the comic sense but this time.................i am speechless. i am just speechless.
what can i say you guys have rocked the show.
though there was small disturbanse dou to mobile ring but its admirable that you keep your cool and continued with the show.as a part of that audiance i apologise you for that mistake.
about drama,i liked the on stage chemistry of you both(now a days this word"chemistry"is blowing in the air thats why i have used it)
before watching it i have heard about it so much from my friends and i was dying to watch it and it happened that day.
Rajan bhise sir has proved that he is a true architect.the nepthya was stupendous...
this was one of the best plays i have seen and i will always wish you to keep going and keep up the good work.
lastly,girish sir i am wishing you best of luck for the success of each and every show of both"makdachya haathi..."and" "final draft"

प्रथमदर्शनी ओस नाटयगृह पाह्ता मनात अशी शंका आली की जे वर्तमानपत्रात ज्या 17 पुरस्कार मिळालेल्या नाटकाचा उल्लेख केलेला, हेच का ते नाटक ??? परंतु नाटयगृहातनं बाहेर निघताना....निश्चितच असं वाटून गेलं की आत्तापर्यंत पाहिलेल्या अनेक प्रकारच्या अनेक नाटकांमधली ही एक उत्क्रृष्ट नाटयकृती आहे....केवळ दोन पात्रांनी नाटकभर केलेल्या अप्रतिम अभिनयाने खुर्चीला अक्षरशः खिळवून ठेवले व दमदार शेवट मनाला भावून गेला.

aaj dinank 14 july 2007 ya divshi me tumacha prayog pahila . i was sitting in the 2nd row of yashwantrao sabhagriha,dadar.
Whatever i ve seen there is just amezing !! atishay sundar,apratim Natyaprayog. in fact tumcha prayog pahnech is itself a short course on acting. Just amezing !!
Mr.Girish joshi & Miss.Mukta barve rocks the stage ,they just enlightened my mind with their smooth and awesome dialog delivery.
pan...majhi tumchya prayogabaddal fakt ekacha takraar aahe..that is also about the petrons ...not about the actors.
I ve seen today , atishay gambhir situation chyaveli suddha how can people/petrons just laugh & clapp like bunch of idiots ? or do we actually think, pratyek marathi natak he phakt Vinodi asta ?
I think we petrons need a short course on "Viewing a play "

this play has opened many layers of my conscience and prompted me to take a relook at my own life..

its a brand new feeling..to open the windows of ones mind and to think beyond the ordinary and mundane..

It is so different from the present satires and farces dominating Marathi theatre at present.

आज शिवाजी मंदिरला फायनल ड्राफ्टचा प्रयोग पाहिला. अतिशय नेटका आणि धाडसी नाट्याविष्कार. एक वेगळाच विषय हाताळल्याबद्दल गिरिश जोशींचे अभिनंदन. फक्त प्रेक्षकांची तुरळक उपस्थिती पाहून खेद वाटला. प्रेक्षक अजूनही निखळ मनोरंजनाच्या निकषावरच नाटकाला जातात की काय ? मुक्ताचा अभिनय तर लाजवाब.

अनेक वेळा सूचना देऊन देखील आपला मोबाईल बंद न करणार्‍या प्रेक्षकांना (तसेच प्रेक्षागारात नाटकापेक्षा खाद्यपदार्थात रस दाखवणार्‍या प्रेक्षकांना) गिरिश जोशी विक्रम गोखल्यांसारखाच धडा शिकवतात हे पाहून समाधान झालं.

जाता जाता : तिकिटावर दुपारी ३.३० ची वेळ होती तर वर्तमानपत्रातल्या जाहिरातीत ४ ची. नाटक सुरु झालं शेवटी ४.१० ला. असा घोटाळा टाळता आला तर बरं होईल.

Hi Girish,
First of all let me say Thank you because I have seen you are the one who dare to stop the play if intrupted by anyone by making noise with his belongings. Let me say frankly that the viewers from Mumbai, Thane & New Mumbai are not keen on viewing the Play. They don't have the manners to watch the play. Several times I have seen people talking on cell phone, leaving the auditorium while the play is going on. I have seen the show at Vishnudas Bhave on 27th August 2007. I was the person sitting behind the person who was talking on cell phone when you paused the play. When the show was over I scold the person, but you will be surprised to know that he didn't feel guilty for what he has done. Earlier I have worked for Experimental Theatre for Technical Work. I can understand how you pickup the link once intrupted. Sometime back when I was watching a Gujarathi Play & you will be surprised to know that there was not a single distrubance by cell phone ring. All the viewers were Gujarathi except me & few others. Is that means that Gujarathi people not carrying their cell phone while watching the play? Or they respect the artists who perform live before them. Also I have seen few of them instructing others to switch off the cell before the third bell. Also another thing I must share with you that after the third bell not a single person entered the hall. And the most important thing is that the show was House Full. Would you like to share your views on this difference, if possible.

I was fully engrossed in the play for the entire duration. This is a loaded play presented with great simplicity and a thru a medium which is warm. No big lectures but big message.

The 'Sir' character was made to face his own unpalatable reality with out a melodrama but thru incisive insights mouthed by 'tumhi'character (the girl student).

Excellent play and one hopes and looks forward to more such brilliant plays from Girish. Mukta is really good actor.

'Makadachya hati Champagne' was one such brilliant play with very deep level of insight into human mind.

I have been hearing about this Play from my friends in Pune and through newspapers for quite some time now. Finally, I could see the Final Draft on last Saturday (Sep 8) at Dinanath. And what a wonderful experience it was! I would have missed a great opportunity in my life to witness such a master creation, had I not seen it.

The storyline is simple and dialogues are powerful. The way intricacies in relationship are built around the storyline, with just two actors and a single set is marvelous. You have proved, yet again, that no gimmicks are needed to impress the audience. You just need a great clarity of mind and a knack to narrate what you believe to be right. The theatre was nearly full on a Saturday afternoon and that falsifies the cry by some people that you don’t get audience for a good marathi play.

The way the play brings about the frustration of a good writer when he stops writing for himself and the way the female character shatters the cocoon build by him around himself is amazing. You realize that it is not ‘she’, but it is his mind talking to himself, trying to shake him out of the artificial comfort zone he has indulged into, after facing a commercial failure. Its true for all of us – whether artistes or not; we easily sympathize with ourselves and try to justify our non performance or failures by giving ourselves ‘n’ number of reasons. As long as we do not get somebody like ‘her’ in some form, we are happy cuddling our own ego and even our failures. It is a dangerous syndrome and it kills the creativity of all those potentially great creators. Only those who either have the courage to stand up against themselves or those who are pushed by somebody – who is their close friend - to stand up against themselves, shatter the cocoon finally overcome this fatal disease and succeed. The only requirement is that your own conscious should be alive and should be hurting, nagging you.

In that sense, I saw this play as the ‘Writer’ v/s his own conscious – which took the form of his student.

One of my friends in Pune (Amit Manrekar) had done a course at your ‘shibir’ in Pune a few years back. He had been telling me since then about what a great writer you are. I am more than convinced with this play with the strength of your ‘pen’. I wish you all the success – commercially as well – in the coming years. I am sure your journey as a successful writer must have been tough and some slices of the same must have got reflected in this Play as well. I see that you are succeeding in the TV Serials as well. I would love to see your name as successful or more, as those of Vijay Tendulkar, Jaywant Dalvi etc. in the years to come. You have the potential and our good wishes would accompany you in your journey…

22-aug-07.. it was the 1st time i came to know the meaning of a "parotagoist" ... before i used to think that a "protagonist" means some villan or something else..... also u gave some very usefull tips about writing a story and the most interesting 1 i found was that"the end must always bee positive".... thank u for distributing important knowledge and trying to make the entertainment community or rather the entertainer's community aware about good story writing skills and that the audience requires entertainment which is sensible...
about mukta barve... she has done a great great job.... using her finger as a nose wiper was striking many times....great skills....she looks very nice when she puts a bindi in between her eye brows.... she has a nice voice.... the backgroung misic was nice and very interesting thing was the sound...dhwani... Is this natak a recorded 1...... i mean do he actors only move ur lips for the recording? please do not tae this question as stupid .... u can take it as a compliment for the sound recording team....

आम्ही नाटके ह्याआधीही पाहिली. मात्र अभिप्राय नोंदवण्याची सोय नसे. कलाकारांनाही लोक नक्की कशासाठी येतात आणि काय पाहून आनंदतात हे कळू शकत नसे. नव्या युगाच्या ह्या सोयीचा लाभ उपलब्ध करून दिल्याखातर धन्यवाद!

दूरदर्शन मालिका लेखनाचा अध्यापक व त्याची विद्यार्थिनी ह्या दोनच पात्रांतील परस्परसंबंध प्रेक्षकांना एवढे खिळवून ठेवू शकतील ह्याची मला कल्पना नव्हती. मात्र मुग्धा आणि गिरीश दोघांच्याही अभिनयातील कलाकारीने ते साध्य झालेले आहे. व्यक्तीरेखेच्या मनातही नसणारे गांभीर्य आणि निरागसता, हावभावात आणि वागणुकीत दाखवून देण्याचे दोन्ही कलाकारांचे कसब दाद द्यावी असेच आहे. दोन वा अधिक अर्थ निघू शकतील अशा अनेक वाक्यांचे केवळ हवे तेच अर्थ व्यक्तविण्याचे कौशल्यही वादातीत आहे.

काही लोकांना "ती फुलराणी" केवळ भक्तीनेच करावी असे वाटत असे. तसेच मला ती विद्यार्थिनीही मुग्धानेच करावी असे वाटते आहे. हे तिच्या, अभिप्रेत व्यक्तीरेखेशी तादात्म साधण्याच्या सामर्थ्याचेच यश आहे.

ह्या नाटकाची परीक्षणे, त्याचे झालेले गौरव ह्या सार्‍यांची दखल घेऊन आम्ही, प्रसंगी डोंबिवलीहून दादरला जावे लागले तरी जाऊन हे नाटक पाहायचेच असे ठरवले. आणि आज त्याचे मुळीच वाईट वाटत नाही.

मनोरंजनातही बुद्धीजीवी मनोरंजन असू शकेल ह्यावर मी एरव्ही विश्वास ठेवला नसता. मात्र ह्या नाटकाने तशी वेळ आणली आहे. हे नाटक सगळ्यांना सारखेच आवडेल असे नाटक नाही. मात्र ज्यांना आवडेल त्यांना निखळ मनोरंजनाचे सौख्य, शून्यातून निर्माण करवून देण्याचे सामर्थ्य त्यात आहे. केवळ आमच्याकरता आपण ही आनंदनिर्मिती केलीत ह्याखातर मन:पूर्वक धन्यवाद.

किव्वा फार काही मराठी नाट्य किव्वा साहित्याचे भांडार पण नाही..


पण मी गिरीश जेशिंचे दोन नाटक बघितलीत गडकरीला ठाण्यात..
आणि कला अशी खंत वाटते की एवढी विनंती करूनही दोन्ही वेळेला प्रेक्षकांच्या हळगर्जी पणामुळे खेळ थांबवावा लगाल

आणि पहिल्या अंका नंतर प्लास्टिक च्या पिशव्यांमुळे जो रसभंग झाला तो मात्र अक्षम्य आहे..
कृपा करून जर प्रेक्षगृहच्या बाहेर विक्रीमधे प्लास्तीच्या पिशव्यांचा वापर थांबवता आला तर फार बरे होईल...

every time it was simply great..I would have even watched it for 500th time and surely enjoyed the same way! ...Girish ne changla natak baghaychi ata savay laavliye...and Makda chya haati...is a proof of that...Now I am waiting for more..

Saw 'Final Draft' on 16/08/08 Shivaji Mandir, Dadar.
Thoroughly enjoyed the play.
The theme, structure and form were very apt and innovative... just one regret that the same cannot be said about the sets and lighting.
Both actors have delivered an exceptional performances full of subtle nuances. Bravo.
Mukta Barve has once again confirmed what a an outstanding talent she is. Thoroughly impressed.

hi.. i have just returned from watching ur play at ravindra bhavan, margao, goa. on my way back, i was thinking about what i would write here but after reading the feedback you've received, i realise i'm just going to be repetitive! nonetheless, i have to applaud ur performances and the lovely script.

it was a very different, well-thought-of and contemporary script. simple but powerful language. and even though the "protagonist" in the play didn't get his due as a writer, girish dada, you deserve a pat on the back!

i last saw mukta in kabaddi kabaddi and now this. wow, what a world of difference in the characters and she's done complete justice to both. she not only shares her name with marathi drama's legendary but she also has it in her to fill the void left by bhakti maushi. way to go mukta!

kudos to the entire team for putting up such a wonderful act. and all the very best for the future performances.

Recently I saw your "Final Draft" at Sangli and today I got an opportunity to see "Makadachya Hati.." at Shivaji Mandir ,Mumbai.
So the plays which were kept deliberatly aside by myself came in a row within a very short span to me ! I kept them aside because I had thought" LONCHE changle muru det !! mag saavkash khata yeel chavine !!

Both these plays are outstanding . Especially being a theare
person I could learn many things .Well a lot is written over them and is approved by various Prizes over a period . So I am actually unable
to express my feelings . In short it was a treat . I will remember your Vachik Abhinay in Final Draft for many many years.. Script wise ..Makadachya is more appealing but at the same time it is given an appropriate treatment by you as a Director of the play..the choice
of cast and every part of it is so perfect.. these plays have surely given a new dimension to Marathi theatre . Young natyakarmi will be now having some landmarks to look up to. I suggest you to make DVDs of both these plays ( I am not aware if they are already there).

Looking forward for your upcoming creations.. with best wishes to you and your team ..

8 मार्चला डोंबिवलीत तुमचं 'फायनल ड्राफ्ट' बघितलं. मध्ये तुम्ही नाटकाचे प्रयोग बंद केल्यानंतर आता परत बघायला मिळणार नाही, अशी हुरहुर लागली होती. पण, परत प्रयोग सुरु झाले आणि हायसं वाटलं. यापूर्वी तुमचं 'माकडाच्या हाती शँपेन' बघितलं होतं. ते अतिशय आवडलं त्यानंतर फायनल ड्राफ्ट कधी बघतो असं झालेलं. 8 तारखेला ते बघता आलं.
नाटक अतिशय आवडलं. लेखन, दिग्दर्शन, अभिनय सर्वच पातळ्यांवर उत्तम जमलंय. एक प्रायोगिक विषय सर्वसामान्यांच्या पसंतीस उतरवलात, यातच नाटकाचं यश आहे. त्यादिवशी प्रयोगादरम्यान काही अतिउत्साही प्रेक्षकांमुळे व्यत्यय आले, त्याबद्दल तिथे उपस्थित प्रेक्षक म्हणून मी माफी मागतो.
नाटकाबद्दल काही सुचवायचंय. नाटकाच्या सुरुवातीला मुक्ता बर्वे यांची एन्ट्री होते, तेव्हा त्यांच्यावर 'कबड्डी कबड्डी' चा प्रभाव जाणवतो. पायाला पाय चिकटवून उभं राहत,मांडीवर हात ठोकणं असा त्यांचा वावर एक कबड्डीपटू म्हणून त्या नाटकात बरा वाटला होता. या नाटकाच्या सुरुवातीला या सवयीला त्यांना मुरड घालता आली नाही. या शिवाय सुरुवातीचं ओळखीवजा संभाषण, नको तितकं लांबलचक झालंय. हे सगळं वैयक्तिकदृष्ट्या मला जे जाणवलं ते सुचवलंय. बाकी नाटक उत्तम झालंय. कथेचा शेवट गोडच का असावा, या मागचं लॉजिक पटण्यासारखं आहे.
झी 24 तास अनन्य सन्मान सोहळ्यात आपण भेटलो होतो. आपल्याला ते आठवत नसेल. मी झी 24 तासला वृत्तनिवेदक असल्याने तो आमचा घरचा कार्यक्रम असल्यासारखाच होता. एनिवेज्...इतकी चांगली कलाकृती निर्माण केलीत, त्याबद्दल आभारी आहे.

I m dombivlikar and i saw the play recently.mukta played well but i found Girish's act bit irritating.
One thing is to be taken care of that u must make ur voice soft when u talk to people distrubing u near coridor.

I did not found the play as per my expectations!

Mukta's jacket in last scene was too short and it looked bad pl try bigger size and bit long

Stage decor looked old and dull.

I was dispointed,it would hav been better if the twist could hav been else.Like, Mukta study the professor and write a story on his life and achive award i mean something like tht.

hi. saw your dombivali show. i liked first act very much. could not enjoy second act because of the disturbances. I think this is the time audience should do something about mobile disturbance. We should kick those people out because they are spoiling our money. Also disturbance in the passage was very irritating. Next function was organised by some political party and those people ( they are more than 500) are making very loud noise. Theater management and doorkeepers were not present on the spot and situation was going out of control. Hats of to you that you at least finished the last scene. I want to see the play for one more time hoping that there will be no disturbance.

over all fantastic, fabulous,wonderful,zakkas..... actually shabda kami padtil natkacha varnan karayla...

I like way Mukta speaks & main thing is the Girish(Sir) sentences are very powerfull.Part 1 is fabulas.He natak fakt 2 anki asunhi donhi patrani khup chan acting keli aahe and the last but important thing is music,mala tya person che mahit nahi pan solid compose kele aahe.
Tumchya sampurna natkatil timla mazyakadur bharpur shubhecha.

I am hoping it to happen sometime in Bangalore.
Natak is best art form evolved over years in MH .

I don't remember when I saw this "natak" must be a couple of months back in Dombivli (savitribai Fule).

I found it great ! One of the best and strong "natak" I have seen so far.

Everything fabulous.... Script, acting, characterisation,everything.

Mukta is great.. Not to mention. Girish is a pleasant surprise. Bhumika "Jagalay" ha maanus. Somehow I am convinced that ha maanus asaach asava..... real life madhye suddha.... the announcement about plastic bags, stopping the paly on ringing of cell phone..... everything shows his "commitment" to natak (is "nishtha" the word?).

I saw 'FINAL DRAFT' on 27 August 2011 at (Shivaji Mandir)Dadar. it was one of the finest dramas which i had ever seen. All praise and appreciation to Hon. Girish Joshi and Hon. Mukta Barve for their effective verbal and non verbal communication. Although the stagecraft and setting are necessary for the better dramatic effects , yet nothing can replace and compensate the effective acting and verbal and non verbal communication of the actors. the drama unfolds the two sides of human life: age of innocence and the age of experience( real and unreal and facts and fiction). during the interval, i saw many of the audience visiting the artists: may be their friends or co-actors, i also wanted to visit Shri Girish Joshi and Mukta Barve but Could not know the rules to visit them. So i remained silent. i wish to see this drama again and again, because it gives you very good message about life perceived and the life actually lived. All the best for future success and performances.

I saw 'Final Draft' on 29 August 2011 with my family. I liked the play very much,Its amazing. With just 2 characters,not much action,you captured our attention.Only one group was disturbing, I felt like watching a comedy show because of their loud laughing. I think I need not explain which group. Were they instructed to do so? To check your concentration? Or our concentration?

मी दोन तास जे काही पाहिले त्याला नाटक म्हणावे का दुसरे काहितरी------
मी जरा सम्भ्रमात आहे तरी देखिल मी ज्या अर्थी दोन तास खुर्चिवर नाट्य ग्रुहात होतो त्या अर्थी तो प्रयोग बरा आहे हे मला मान्य करावेच लागेल .
गिरिश जोशी पात्राच्या अन्तरंगात एवढ़े शीरतात कि प्रेक्षकात जरा काही हालचाल झाली तरी ते अस्वस्थ होतात .बरयाच वेळा दोन्ही पात्रे एकाच वेळी बोलताना दिसतात हे सह्म्भाषण आ मच्या डोक्यवरुन जाते.हि जर् दिग्दर्शनाची नविन पद्धत असेल तर माहित नाही.दोघंचा अभिनय झकास आहे .

4th SEPT. 2011

1) A serious play presented with a touch of subtle humour. Wow! That is rarely successful but this one was. Usually the end product ends up being lop-sided. This was balanced just right. Highly powerful writing! Loved it!

2) Both Mr. Girish Joshi & Ms. Mukta Barve did an outstanding job of delivering the potent script.

3) The intellectual part of the script was lost on some of us so we (the audience) kept twittering at slightest hint of humour. As if the audience was thirsting for thigh-slapping comedy. As it is comedy seems to be the name of the game - selling highest.
But some of the humour was wry and I felt wee bit annoyed at audience reactions. Nothing the makers/actors or I can do about. Still I need to convey it.

4) Final point: I do hope Mr. Joshi does not mind and takes one more suggestion/observation of mine in good spirit. My apologies in advance if he does feel annoyed/affronted. Here goes: If only Mr. Joshi would not fidget with his clothes so much - it distracts the viewer. It does not help if one wears clinging "hosiery" kind of sportswear for a casual look. Dry fit sportswear - albeit costly - would be way better to watch Mr. J comfortably and confidently go about the stage space he so commendably handles.

All in all, a big thank you to all the artists involved in creating this remarkably good show!!!

I watched the play for the first time recently in Dinanath Sabhagruh. I was stunned as I have gone through almost similar experience in real life!The confusion and dilema are very well depicted.

CONGRATULATIONS, What a play!!. I have been watching Marathi plays regularly for last 25 yrs and have seen Marathi Theater deteriorating steadily over this period and your Play was a breath of fresh air. I wouldn't like to be too technical as many people must have commented in that way, but hats off to the Author for understanding and successfully portraying the psychological aspect of the 2 characters. I am a doctor. Sir, have you by any chance taken help of any doctor or psychologist to understand the characters? Anyway that doesn't matter. But what we see here are two common individuals from our everyday life, whom we take it for granted and label them. In society they are inadequate & that’s why we label them. But life is dynamic and so are the people and there is much more to a person than we see superficially. Only they require a catalyst as we saw in this play. Continues close & personal interactions allow these two characters to overcome their inadequacies, break their shackles and rise to their true potential.
What was shown on the stage was an extremely intimate battle between personalities, internal as well as external. In day to day life we never see these internal, personal, churnings because they are very very private. What we usually see is the end result of these churnings. That is the reason perhaps some might find it difficult to digest the change that occurs in both the individuals at the end. But then people do evolve, because 'change is the only constant thing in life'. This play has shown that if we succeed in marshaling inner resources to their full potential everything is possible.
On technical front, acting was superb, direction almost faultless.
Lot to learn from such plays if we are open to ourselves.

I watched Final Draft yesterday night and found it to be a good play. The wonderful play between humour and tragedy seamlessly woven in to each other is is quite entertaining. I felt the 2nd half and especially the end of the play needed to be more interesting. It was a very tame end to what otherwise is a wonderful watch.
Finally - Girish Joshi and Ms. Barve potrayal of the characters was impeccable.

मी आज, दि . १८ सप्टेम्बर २०११ रोजी "फ्हाय्णाल ड्राफ्ट" पहिला ,मला हा नाटक खूपच अवडला, मनापासून अगदी संघावा म्हणजे जेव्हा नाटकाचा नाव कोनही वाचेल तर असा लक्षात येत कि ह्यात वाकील्गिरी , पोलीस असा काय प्रकार असेल, पण विषय वेगळाच आहे.. फक्त २ पात्र मंचावर राहून बरेच गोष्टी मांडण्यात येतात !! ह्या नाटकात काही खास नसून देखील बराच काय शिकवून जातो !!नाटक रसिक प्रेमियो तुम्ही हा नाटक नक्कीच पहा !! मुक्ता चा किती कौतुक करेन तितका कमीच असा वाटतंय !!! मुक्ता, पुन्हा एकदा उत्कृष्ट कामगिरी .. गिरीश जोशी तुम्हाला साष्टांग नमस्कार !!!

Enjoyed yesterday's show in Atre rangamandir Kalyan. Congrats to Mukta and Girish for excellent performance! It really struck a chord. Sometimes you need someone to point out to you your mistakes SINCERLY and at the same time empathize with you. The drama is very well conveyed. I think the irritability of professor's character was essential.
So can we join your next batch of script writing? :)

Dear Girish and Mukta,

Today, I could see a prayog at Gadkari. Long time i had that in mind. Frankly I had expected too much....i was happy with play.
Mainly, script, lighting and direction.

Some observations (of course justifiable)-
1) Mukta kadhich chappal kadhun gharat yet nahi!
2) Mumbait light kadhi jatat!
3) shevatachyach scenemadhye, mukta yevadhi natun ka yete? :)
4) Kadhi kadhi humor jara odd vatala.
5) te shevatachya scene madhale, mulishi phonewar bolane ati zale hote..

vagaire vagaire....

Natak baki zakas hote...kharach hatake..

Keep it up!

I was touched & moved when I was watching the play. It was very balanced and perfect. I must appreciate the actors & all back ground supporters for creating this very presentable . I remebers one show may be " Adhe Adhure" which I saw around 35 years back, which had similar impact on me.

Each and every word, sentence in the drama was effective not only by it's meanig but the way they were displayed by Girish Joshi & Mukta Barve.

Mukta Barves's acting was spendid. The inocence & Aggressive expressions were remarkable. Very heavy sentences by Girish were astonishning.
Hya sarvanchi nirmiti kharach khup changli zali Ahe. Sangit , Prakash yojana , drepary sarvach agadi jagchya jagi ani vavyashrit hote. Sarvat mahatvach mhanaje Prayog tasa velan suru zala.

Atishay netake & prqabhavi natak pahun khup samadhan vatale.

Saw the play last Sunday 9th Oct 2011 on recommendation from a friend. I had read a few reviews and was quite intrigued by the story line. having earlier seen another play - 'Love Birds' - by Girish Joshi, I was looking forward to another satisfying experience.

But before I write anything more, let me sincerely compliment both the actors. Performance wise these actors have surpassed the highest standards benchmarked by giants like Dilip Prabhavalkar and Suhas Joshi. Every small nuance and gesture is so full of impact and effect that one cannot but appreciate their intelligence in unqualified superlatives. Kudos to the Director for handling the script so efficiently and holding the audience literally in a iron grip till the very end.

However, despite the synopsis giving a brief gist of the subject matter - let me confess, I could not understand what finally is the message. Dramatization of situations one after the other and carried out with full justification of the anticipated and expected theatrics still does not weave a whole which drives towards any focussed goal. The effort ends up as a contrived and directionless excellence taking you nowhere.

I strongly suggest Mr Joshi's talent can work wonders and literally fire the Marathi stage - provided he engages a script-writer of some repute and produces a play which uses only his directorial talent.

Visheshtaha eka vidyarthini aani tuchya pradhapaka madhle nate aanityatle visamvad parkarshane baaher aale. yet naatak kuthe kuthe khechlyasarkhe vatle aani tyacha shevat faar vichitra vatla. tya professorsla aaple natak suchte aani tya mulichi katha ek producer gheto. There was no justification for the same. Mhanje kuthe tari te natak sampayla have mhanun kahitari goshtila twists aanle gele ase vatle. Otherwise, flawless performances. Mukta was simply brilliant.Girish was also superb and the chemistry between the two performers was awesome.

One suggestion about the dresses for Girish Joshi. Please be more presentable specially the dresses you wore in first ank. Your shirt (checks) was very oversized and the T shirts you were wearing needs better choice. Rest all excellent. A play which makes everyone think about your phenotype and genotype.

आपले ’फायनल ड्राफ्ट’ हे नाटक ३१ ऑक्टोबरला शिवाजीमध्ये पाहिले.

अतिशय अवघड नाटक आपण अत्यंत कलात्मकतेने सादर केले. मुक्ताची अप्रतिम साथ आपल्याला लाभली. गांभीर्यातूनदेखील हास्याचे प्रसंग त्यात होत; ते देखिल उपहासगर्भ!

त्या प्रयोगात मुक्ता मात्र कित्येक प्रवेशांमध्ये ’अकारण’ रडत होती असे वाटले. जणू तिला ते अश्रू आतून येत होते आणि म्हणूनच अनावर होते. ते कां; ते समजले ना्ही.
पहिला अंक….विशेषत: सुरुवातीचे प्रवे्श, रेंगाळलेले वाटले.

तरीही, खूप काळाने बुध्दीला खाद्य देणारे नाटक पाहिल्याचे समाधान झाले. संवाद खूपच सुंदर लिहिलेले आहेत. हृदयाला भिडतात.

Very pleasant surprise. Saw the play on 30th Oct. I loved the play. It reminded me of an old English movie "Educating Rita" but just better. Both actors have done an excellent job but specially Mukta who played the role with the low tones was superb.There is not a dull moment.

Look forward to the next play from the group.

आज ०७.११.११ रोजी शिवाजी मंदिरला फायनल ड्राफ्टचा प्रयोग पाहिला. पुन्हा एकदा. अतिशय आवडला.कथा तर लक्षणीय आहेच, पण गिरीश आणि मुक्ता दोघांचाही अभिनय अप्रतिम होता.प्रयोगानंतर आपली भेटही घेतली. पण सगळं सांगता आलं नाही.सभोवतालच्या सुमारांच्या गर्दीत आपण आशय आणि अभिनय दोन्ही पातळीवरचं उजवेपण टिकवून ठेवलं आहे ही आनंदाची बाब आहे.
तुमच्या लेखनाबद्दल(व्हाईट लिली) आणि मुक्ता बर्वे यांच्या अभिनयाबद्दल (कबड्डी)खूप अप्रूप वाटते.आपल्या भोवतालच्या आणि स्वत:च्याही आयुष्याचे असे पापुद्रे काढून दाखवणे ही सोपी गोष्ट नाही. त्यातून अकाली आलेल्या मानसिक स्वस्थतेचे टवके निघतात आणि आपण आपलंच जखमीपण समजून घ्यायला मोकळे होतो.सभोवतालच्या संपन्नतेच्या पोटात जे सर्वव्यापी भकासपण आहे ते जेव्हा सकस कलाकृतींमधून दिसतं तेव्हाच थोडंफार शहाणपण टिकून राहण्याची शक्यता असते. आपलं नाटक हे असं शहाणपण टिकवून धरण्याचं माध्यम आहे असं मला वाटतं.
तुमच्यासारखे अधिक संवेदनशील आणि धाडसी लोक मराठी रंगभूमीला मिळोत ही सदिच्छा
थोडंसं अप्रस्तुत वाटेल पण एक गोष्ट लिहितो.
नाटकांचे प्रेक्षक कमी झाले की आपण तो मराठी रंगभूमीपुढचा आणि पर्यायाने मराठी भाषेपुढचा धोका मानतो.सगळ्या मराठी समाजाने त्यावर विचार करावा असं म्हणतो.पण मराठी भाषेचे इतर महत्वाचे प्रश्न- मग ते मराठी शाळा बंद पडण्याचे असतील किंवा शासनाने एखादी भाषाविषयक संस्था बंद करून टाकण्याचा असेल, याची कोणतीच प्रतिक्रिया रंगकर्मींमध्ये का उमटत नाही? मराठीच्या प्रश्नांशी तुमच्यासारख्या संवेदनशील आणि विचारी रंगकर्मींनी तरी जोडून घेतलं पाहिजे.
हे सगळं इतक्या विस्ताराने लिहिण्याचं कारण म्हणजे गेली आठेक वर्षे मी आणि माझे सहकारी मराठी अभ्यास केंद्र या नावाची मराठी भाषा, समाज आणि संस्कृतीच्या प्रश्नांवर काम करणारी चळवळ चालवतो.

Recently saw your drama ‘Final Draft’. Initially, I was reluctatant to see thinking that it will be serious and boring. But I like your drama and it was really worth wining so many prizes
The acting duo Mukta Barve and Girish Joshi were excellent with respect to expression and dialogue delivery. It is worth mentioning here that quality of dialogue and plot was very much creative. We were not able to imagine what will be the end but the story continued with twist and turn. The final Kulladevata impact was mind blowing I must thank to all ‘Final Draft’ team for presenting drama worth watching. Once again thanks a lot and all the best

फायनल ड्राफ्ट चा प्रयोग आम्ही १९ नोव्हेंबरला पाहिला. सही अनुभव! डोक्यात खोलवर घुसला भुंग्यासारखा! तुम्हां दोघांचा अभिनय, बोलणे, मांडण्यातील सडेतोडपणा, तुमचे रोखठोक- एकदम मनाला भिडणारे-झिणझिण्या आणणारे-आणि खूपदा... Yeah, exactly! I got it why I feel this so! हे जाणवून देणारे लेखन... Hats off Sir! मी प्रचंड वाचन वेडी आहे. मला कळायला लागल्यापासून आणि जेव्हापासून वाचता यायला लागले असेल, तेव्हापासून मी वाचतेय! पण आपण पुस्तके का वाचतो-याचेही विश्लेषण करता येऊ शकते आणि May be ते कारण तुम्ही मांडलंय तसे किंवा त्यासारखे असू शकते - हे मला तुमचे नाटक पाहिल्यावर पहिल्यांदा जाणवले! खरेतर तुमचे संपूर्ण लिखाण इतके मनाला भिडले की बस्स!
मुक्ता यांचा मालिका-चित्रपट-नाटक यांतील अभिनय या आधीच समरसून पहिला होता. त्यांची संवादफेक, भूमिकेबद्दलची समज (अबब! इतके अभ्यासू मत देण्याची खरेतर माझी पात्रता नाही... तरीही जे वाटले ते प्रांजळपणे!) ठाऊक होती. हे नाटक पाहतानाही त्यांचे एक वैशिष्ट्य मनात पक्के ठसले... त्यांचा पुढचा dialogue, पुढची reaction अजिबात predict करता येत नाही... किंबहुना पुष्कळदा ती अनपेक्षित किंवा फारच कल्पनेपलिकडची असते... हा त्यांचा (किंवा त्यांनी अर्जन केलेला) plus point म्हणावे लागेल.
तुम्हांला मात्र प्रत्यक्ष पहिल्यांदाच पाहिले. रसिका जोशी यांची मी फार मोठी Fan आहे. त्यांच्यामुळे तुमचे नाव ऐकून माहीत होते...
इतके जबरदस्त ताकदीचे लिखाण तितक्याच समर्थपणे पेलण्याचे शिवधनुष्य तुम्ही दोघंही लीलया (हे आम्हां प्रेक्षकांचे मत! तुमच्या आतील मानसिक, बौद्धिक आणि भावनिक उलाढालींची आम्हांला जास्त नाही; पण थोडीशी कल्पना आहे!) पेललेय. नाटक पाहताना पुष्कळ वेळा आमचे मन तुम्ही उलगडून दाखवताय-अशी प्रबळ भावना जाणवली! नेपथ्य आणि प्रकाशयोजनेबद्दल अभ्यासू मत द्यावे-असे काही कळत नाही! पण ते नाटकात अगदी समर्पकरित्या घुसळून गेल्यासारखे वाटले. खिडकीजवळ असणारी आरामखुर्ची मला का कोण जाणे-फार भावली! खिडकीतून बाहेर दिसणारे झाड ही! फायनल ड्राफ्ट पाहताना स्वतःची मानसिकता आणि बौद्धिक पातळीचा आढावा घेतल्यासारखे वाटले.
या आधी अमोल ह्याने दिलेले मत ही आवडले.

Saw this play today at Matunga. Great work by Mukta Barve. Would like to see Girish again in some other work, to evaluate him.Serious subject, makes you think about life.
Mobile fone rings kept disturbing the play.The audience of Marathi plays needs to be penalised for such stupidity.

Excellent play ever seen.
I must appreciate the role played by Mukta and Girish sir.I saw Marathi play after long time and was very much impressed.The script,direction,acting every thing perfect.The play deserves the awards it earned.Mukta is my all time favourate and she did well as expected with Girish Sir.

11 dec 2011 la shivaji la show pahila. faar diwasaani excellent natak pahile. 'makdachya haati... che producer mhanun eka magomaag tumchi natake baghato aahe. 'makdachya haati.. was simply superb so went for 'white lilly night rider.. but that was bukwas drama for my choice. still gave try for 'final draft' that was again excellent. Mukta and YOu Girish were outstanding. Girish ji thoodi jamel tar tummy sambhala. baaki sarva chan , uttam aahe.

Wonderful!!! Saw the play at Balgandharva on the 25th. After very long time we thoroughly enjoyed overselves. Excellent perfomances. Mukta you are too good, keep it up and keep entertaining. Girish, hats off to ur dialogue delivery and memory. Congratulations!!!

Today on 31 Dec saw Final Drat on insistence of my wife. One reason I immediately agreed was my wife told me Mukta Barve was in the play.
But after seeing Final Draft want to congratulate Girish Joshi on this exceptional and engrossing play. You have handled a very complex subjext with intellegent humor without losing the underlying seriousness of the issues inlvolved. I feel it touches one's soul as many of the issues are faced by us in real life. I had the good fortune of congratulating Girish in person in the parking lot of Shivaji Mandir as we were trying an idiot to remove his car and allow us to pass.
As for Mukta...how can one not love this girl. As usual she was excellent. With much less dialogues Mukta captivated the audiences with her expressions. Prima Donna of the theater.

गेले कित्येक दिवस तुला पाहिन म्हणत होतो.आज पाहिलं.खरंतर तुला पाहाण्यामागे कारण होतं,मुग्धा बर्वे.तिला स्टेजवर भूमिका करताना प्रत्यक्ष पाहायचं होतं.यापूर्वी छोट्या आणि मोठ्या पडद्यावर अनेकदा तिला पाहिलं.हळूहळू तिच्या अॅक्टींगच्या प्रेमात पडत गेलो.इतकं कि "एक डाव धोबीपछाड" सारखी टुकार फिल्मसुद्धा केवळ तिच्या अॅक्टिंगसाठी दोनवेळा पाहिली.
आज तुला पाहाताना मुक्ताने अपेक्षाभंग नाही केला.तिच्या अधिकच प्रेमात पडलो.गिरिशकाभी जबाब नही.यापूर्वी "बुद्धिबळ आणि झब्बू","काटकोन त्रिकोण" यांनी तर्कबुद्धिला जो आनंद दिला, काहिसा तसाच आनंद आज तू दिलास.
तुला पाहाताना मोबाईलच्या आवाजाचा त्रास झाला सुरूवातीला. तो तसा गृहीतच धरतो आताशा आम्ही रसिक प्रेक्षक.गिरिशने त्याच क्षणी पॉज घेऊन थोडंसं कठोरपणे खडसावलं आम्हा प्रेक्षकांना.ते गरजेचं होतं.
गिरिशला एक सुचव,पटलंतर.पुढे कधी असा मोबाईल वाजला तर पॉज जरुर घे आणि प्रेक्षकांना विनंती कर.म्हणावं,"कोणालातरी अति महत्त्वाचा फोन आलाय बहुधा.त्यांना डिस्टर्बंस नको म्हणून आपण थोडं थांबू.कृपया त्यांनी फोनवर बोलून घ्यावं.मग आपण पुन्हा सुरूवात करू".
तुला पाहिल्यावर काहिसा गोंधळ राहिला डोक्यात.मुग्धाचा बावळटपणा,डोळ्यातला वेडसरपणा खरा की तिचं तर्कशुद्ध बोलणं खरं? आत्मविश्वास हरवलेली कि स्वाभीमान बाळगणारी मुग्धा खरी? जयसिंगपूरच्या मुलीच्या बोलण्याचा ढंग कोल्हापुरी वाटला नाही.असो.
नवीन वर्षात तुझी भरभराट होवो, तू दिर्घायुषी होवोस, अशा शुभेच्छांसह....

Mukta Barve was too good! From the first row, I could watch her facial expressions clearly! Amazing actress!

I had trouble with a few points:

-what is the significance of the girl not even clearing 10th?
-when the girl speaks logical, the accent drops!
-the last part was a little hurried.

Dear Girish and Mukta,

I saw this play yesterday in borivali after much pursuasion by my parents. I usually see only comedy plays ("Me nathuram godse boltoy" was an exception) and was circumspect when my father bought tickets for this play. But, contrary to my feeling, I wasnt disappointed at all.

This play handles a very sensitive issue of being true to yourself. The issue has been handled very carefully and humour has been used as a channel to convey a hard hitting message to the audience. Both Girish and Mukta have given a power-packed performance. All in all this is a wonderful play which leaves you with a pleasant feeling at the end and an important thought to ponder upon.
Thanks to Girish for writing, directing and acting in such a wonderful play. To Mukta, I am already your fan since a long time. Liked your performance again.

Mukta Barve was totally amazing! An "out-of-the-box" play!

Had a few doubts:

-What is the significance of the girl not having cleared even 10th?

Girish, tumcha abhinay sahaj hota. footwork technically correct asalyamule tumchyatla digdarshak pan madhun madhun disat hota :) but in all mastach.

Mukta, tu mhanje agdi 'pimple pan' pasunch bhannat, bindhast acting kartes.
"sir tumhi nav natak lihitay he mala tumhala sangaych hoat" chi delivery khasach.

Lights cha evadha gondhal ka zhala aajchya prayogat? kalaji ghya. Mulatach lights improve karayla prachand scope aahe.

Keep it up.

Great play - superpb 'LEKHAN' - solid acting and dialogue delivery by Shri Girish Joshi - good acting by Miss Barve.
The end should have been positive as 'PROTAGANIST' says in the play. After the last delivery of the sentence by male actor i.e. 'TUZYA DOLYAT TI VEDSAR ZHAK TASHICH RAHU DE', the actor should have called his daughter at Pune and told her that 'Beta, I am coming to Pune to acompany you for your 12th Exams -(moral support type) - bcoz the male actor has given atleast more than 5 mnts on phone to his daughter and in the end also he
suggested to the female actress that even though he did not like her story, he is realy pleased with the end of the story which she has shown positive i.e. girl getting cure and all that stuff. ASO.

2nd thing, one particular dialogue coming out from female when she got boiled up with the male actor in the end, was unwarranted for - which is - 'Mala kay samzat nahavate ka ki tumhi mazya samor tumchya baykoshi ka bolalat te' ani 'mi kay tula kapade kadhyala sangonar aahe ka'

Becoz in the whole play the chemistry between the two actors has shown very normal. No attraction between the two in whatsoever manner has shown in the entire play.

But boss, tell you frankly, the play is 'AFLATUN'

vishay 'niche' audience sathi ahe he matra khara.

swatahche apayash wa bheeti cha uchchar swatahshich apan karayla ghabarto, pan thoda aat dokawun pahayla kaay harkat ahe, ase watle natak pahatana,

मी आजच दिनांक २६ मार्च २०१२ रोजी दुपारी ४ वाजता प्रबोधनकार ठाकरे नाट्यगृह येथे "फायनल ड्राफ्ट" चा प्रयोग बघितला. तस हे या आठवड्यातल माझ तिसर नाटक. आणि ही सर्व नाटक (म्हणजे प्ले ) बघून वाटत की मराठी मराठी नाट्यसृष्टीत इतके व्यापक विषय हाताळले जातात जे बहुतेक वेळा इतर कोणतेही माध्यम हाताळत नाहीत आणि ते ही आखून दिलेलेल्या रंगमंचावर आणि आखून दिलेल्या वेळेत.....मराठी भाषेची खासियत काय आहे हे ज्याला अनुभवायचं आहे त्याने जरूर मराठी नाटके पहावीत........
आता जरा "फायनल ड्राफ्ट" चा ड्राफ्ट......खर सांगू नाटकाची सुरुवात होऊन बरच वेळ झाला तरी नाटक पकड घेत नाही आणि त्याची मध्यवर्ती संकल्पना काय आहे ते कळत नव्हत.....त्यात पात्र दोनच आणि प्रवेश पण त्याच जागेवर घडणारे त्यामुळे विषय रंगणार की नाही याची जरा हुरहूर वाटत होती आणि मध्यंतरापर्यंत तर तशी खात्री पण झाली होती. पण जसा जसा दुसरा अंक सरकू लागला तशी तशी नाटकाची मांडणी समजत गेली आणि नाटकाचा एक गोड व विचार करायला लावणारा शेवट झाला. अप्रतिम नाटक......साधं, सरळ पण मनाच ठाव घेणार.....आणि जीवन कस जगाव हे सांगणार.....

aatach Punyat Yashwantrao chavan kothrud madhye tujha prayog baghitla. Tu surekhach kaam kartes te mahit hota pun even after being a star now tu bearing sodat nahis and te maintain kartes throughout hay baghun pharach chan vatla.
Believe me khup varshanni itka sundar natak baghitla. Truly unconventional.

Hi Girish tumhala tar full marks dyayla pahijet. Itka unconventional natak lihilat tumhi and tyacha positive ending baghun tar pharach aanand zhala. Tumcha abhinay me first time pahila ofcourse pun tumhich te kaam karu shakta hyachi khatri patli.

Writing, Direction ani abhinay tinhi mala pharach avadla. Humor and message truly appealing and convincing.
